What Do Lighting and Sound People Do?

What would a WRCT pr oduction be without good lighting and sound? BORING, that's what it would be! That's why we are always happy to train new people for these jobs—because they are vital to a great show!

The Lighting and Sound crews is responsible for the following:

  • Working with the set designer and the artistic director to design the lighting and sound plans.
  • Reading the entire script in order to be familiar with the play and lighting and sound needs for the production
  • Making sure that the lighting and sound equipment is kept clean and safe
  • Maintaining the lighting and sound budget
  • Determining which lighting and sound supplies must be ordered
  • Create CDs or audiotapes as needed
  • Reporting any equipment malfunction to the production manager
  • Coordinating the hanging of the lights with the set construction manager and the production schedule
  • Marking the enlarged script with all lighting and sound cues
  • Maintaining a schedule so there are adequate crews for tech rehearsals and performances
  • Being present at set strike, and returning the lighting equipment to the wooden lighting boxes
  • Returning the lighting board to the locked wooden case, and returning it to the storage room (Sound equipment must be returned to storage area or to the proper owners)
